Moorhead Area Education Foundation, which was incorporated in 1990, raises money for education programs, services and opportunities and for scholarships for post-secondary education. Through the Moorhead Area Education Foundation, individuals and businesses can support programs and activities in the Moorhead Area Public Schools not funded by tax money.
While it works closely with Moorhead Area Public Schools, MAEF is a separate tax-exempt community foundation incorporated in Minnesota. Its mission is to raise money and receive gifts of money or property for the purpose of enhancing educational opportunities and providing scholarships for students in the Moorhead School District. Enhancement mini-grants are awarded twice a year through an application process, and scholarships for students' post-secondary education are awarded each May.
Moorhead Area Education Foundation is administered by a Board of Trustees consisting of community members who serve no more than two three-year terms. One-third of the Board is elected each year.
The Board of Trustees meets on the second Thursday of each month. Besides awarding mini-grants and scholarships, Board members sponsor an annual fundraising phonathon.
The Moorhead Area Education Foundation newsletter is published annually in the winter and features news about scholarships, incentive grants, Board members and events. The foundation has formed an alumni group for past scholarship winners. For a $15 annual fee, members receive the newsletter and other membership mailings.
