Voters in the Moorhead Area Public Schools approved the district’s bond referendum 5,478 (76%) to 1,754 (24%) during the Nov. 5 special election. The ballot question to address high school facility needs required a simple majority to pass. School district election results were canvassed by the School Board on Nov. 12 and are now official. Actor and singer William Martinez’s first language was American Sign Language, not spoken English. Martinez, who grew up in a deaf household, shared his story and the impact one teacher had on his life when he spoke to district employees at the Moorhead Area Public Schools’ all-staff assembly on Aug. 26.
Horizon Middle School’s Owen Anderson sings the national anthem at the opening of the Special Olympics track and field meet held May 15 at Moorhead High. Eight communities participated in the games. With a history spanning more than 140 years, the story of Moorhead Area Public Schools is detailed on a 50-foot-long historical timeline in the lobby of Horizon Middle School’s Performing Arts Center. At the Aug. 12 meeting, the Moorhead School Board moved forward with a construction plan for growth and learning by approving the ballot language for the district’s $110 million Nov. 5 bond referendum, which will provide students in grades 9-12 with safe, inviting and inclusive learning environments.
As a volunteer, Nadine Moon has helped with all aspects of the school supply drive. As a school social worker for Moorhead Area Public Schools, Moon picks up extra backpacks and distributes them to the Moorhead schools to have as families move into the district. Moon helped the United Way of Cass-Clay kick off this year’s 21st annual school supply drive July 9 at Scheels in Fargo. Read More »

In partnership with families and the community, Early Intervention Services (EIS), which is located at Probstfield Center for Education, provides special education services at no cost to children in the Moorhead Area Public Schools ages birth to age of school entry. Licensed teachers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and physical therapists respond to referrals to EIS with support to answer questions parents have about their child's development. EIS provides developmental assessments as needed and offers services upon meeting Minnesota special education entrance requirements. Professionals strive to provide services in settings with other children of similar ages.
