Chuck Gulsvig

Inducted Saturday, October 6, 2018


Chuck Gulsvig graduated from Moorhead High School in 1975. Gulsvig graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Concordia College, Moorhead, in 1979. He later earned a master’s degree from Moorhead State College, now Minnesota State University Moorhead, in 1987.

In 1979 Gulsvig began his career in education as a physical education and health teacher for Kennedy (Minn.) Public Schools. He was the football head coach and basketball assistant coach for Kennedy High School.

Gulsvig began teaching for Moorhead Area Public Schools in 1982. He taught physical education at Moorhead High School, was the sophomore football coach for 26 years, and coached basketball for 27 years. In 2009 Gulsvig became public affairs director for Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D.

During his 27 years as the Moorhead High boys basketball head coach, Gulsvig compiled a 445-222 record. He was named Minnesota’s Class 4A Boys Basketball Coach of the Year in 2002. Under Gulsvig, Moorhead won seven section titles, and Gulsvig was the Section 8 Boys Basketball Coach of the Year five times. He was inducted into the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2010.

Gulsvig is a past president of the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association, a past president of Vikingland Kiwanis, and current board member of the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation.

Chuck and his wife, Dar, live in Moorhead, Minn. They have three children, Bobbie Jo, Jaclyn and Maggie, and four grandchildren.
