Human Resources

The employees of Moorhead Area Public Schools are the district's most important resource for providing learners in the community with a high quality educational system.

Human Resources, which recruits qualified teachers and personnel to enhance the instructional program, serves the employees of Moorhead Area Public Schools throughout their employment with the district. The relationship with each employee begins with recruitment and hiring, continues throughout the employee's career with the district, and extends until retirement.

Records regarding staff employment such as transfers, leaves, promotions, tenure and retirement are maintained by Human Resources. The department administers relicensure and recertification as well as the employee benefit programs such as the Employee Assistance Program.

The Human Resources department recruits and maintains a list of substitute teachers and paraprofessionals. The office uses the automated Substitute Employee Management System (SEMS) to contact teacher and paraprofessional substitutes who have registered with the system about available positions. All employees enter their absences in the SEMS so employee leave records can be maintained, substitutes can be called, and substitute pay can be determined.

Employee compensation matters, including determining appropriate salary levels, determining changes in salaries and processing all adjustments, are directed by Human Resources. The department also participates in negotiations and administers all contracts.

Human Resources is also responsible for administering the worker's compensation program and maintaining and ensuring compliance with all state and federal employment laws.
