Moorhead High School senior Andrew Hermann placed second at the National SkillsUSA power equipment competition held June 23-26 in Louisville, Ky. The high school level in power equipment repair included 37 competitors — each earning their way to nationals by winning their state competition. Besides a written knowledge test, the hands-on stations included engine tuning, adjusting, electrical troubleshooting, maintenance, fuel injection, and others during the 8-hour competition.
Local students from M-State in Moorhead and Detroit Lakes also competed at Nationals. Zach Ehresman from M-State Detroit Lakes placed second in power equipment technology, Shawn Teal from M-State Moorhead placed sixth in diesel equipment technology, and Kenneth Bye (Moorhead High Class of 2014) from M-State Moorhead placed 10th in automotive service technology.
Instructors Scott Ripplinger (Diesel - M-State Moorhead), Kent Reisenauer (Power Equipment - M-State Detroit Lakes), and Jeff Schneider (Power Equipment – Moorhead High School) are their advisors.
