District’s new special education director began July 1

July 22, 2015

At its June 22 meeting, the Moorhead School Board approved the recommendation of administration to hire Duane Borgeson as the new executive director of Learner Support Services effective July 1, 2015.
 
“Duane has worked in many different special education settings and looks to provide a continued emphasis on inclusive learning environments,” said Superintendent Lynne Kovash. “He also is a leader in the legislative and financial areas of special education.”
 
Since 2002, Borgeson has been the executive director of the Benton-Stearns Education District. Prior to that he worked as executive director of the Mid-State Education District in Little Falls, Minn., and as assistant director for the Area Special Education Cooperative in East Grand Forks, Minn. Additionally, Borgeson has served on the board, including as president, of Minnesota Administrators for Special Education.
 
“I look forward to working with the administrators, teachers, support staff and families at Moorhead Area Public Schools to help all students succeed,” Borgeson said. “I will be using my 20 years experience in special education administration to help develop programming and support staff in their daily work of educating our students.”
 
Borgeson earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology from the University of North Dakota. He holds a master’s degree in school psychology from Minnesota State University Moorhead and in education administration from University of North Dakota.
