Duane Borgeson, the district’s new executive director of Learner Support Services, is looking forward to working with the students and families in Moorhead Area Public Schools.
Borgeson, who took over as executive director on July 1, is responsible for the district’s special education program, counseling and nursing services, and alternative service delivery grant.
“Moorhead Area Public Schools has many exciting initiatives,” Borgeson said. “In particular, I look forward to being part of the Alternative Delivery of Specialized Instruction grant to provide support to students before academic or behavioral concerns develop into a need for special education services.”
Borgeson earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology from the University of North Dakota. He holds a master’s degree in school psychology from Minnesota State University Moorhead and in education administration from University of North Dakota.
For the past 13 years, Borgeson has been executive director of the Benton-Stearns Education District. Prior to that he worked as executive director of the Mid-State Education District in Little Falls, Minn., and as assistant director for the Area Special Education Cooperative in East Grand Forks, Minn. He began his career in education as a school psychologist for the Minnesota Valley Cooperative Center in Granite Falls, Minn. Borgeson also has served on the board, including as president, of Minnesota Administrators for Special Education.
Borgeson was interested in working for Moorhead Area Public Schools for the opportunity to work with the district team to develop services to meet the needs of an ever-changing student population.
“Additionally, the range of programs available for students is outstanding,” he said. “I appreciate the opportunity to serve Moorhead Area Public Schools and the Moorhead community.”
Borgeson’s goal for the rest of the summer and this coming school year is to get to know the district and staff members.
“I want to be visible in the district and have staff feel they can come to me with questions and concerns that they may have,” he said.
