Opportunities available for parents to learn about Spanish Immersion Program

January 20, 2016

Parents who are considering enrolling their children in the Moorhead School District’s K-5 Spanish Immersion Program are invited to learn more information about the program by meeting with a principal, speaking to Spanish Immersion parents or visiting the school.

Parents are encouraged to meet with Ryan LaDage, Ellen Hopkins Elementary principal, or Robin Grooters, Probstfield Elementary principal, before or during kindergarten registration. These meetings will provide parents with information about immersion education and the district’s immersion program, with kindergarten at Probstfield Elementary and grades 1-5 located at Ellen Hopkins Elementary School. Parents also will have the opportunity to talk about their child’s specific interests and needs, as well as discuss their questions or concerns.

Parents may also visit Hopkins Elementary to observe the Spanish Immersion classroom. Parents need to call the Hopkins office at 218-284-4300 to schedule their meeting or classroom visit.

A video about the program is available by request through the Hopkins office.

All children in the Moorhead School District entering kindergarten in the fall are eligible to register for the district’s Spanish Immersion Program. A limited number of spaces are available in the first-grade classes.

Students in the immersion program learn the same subject content that other students learn in the elementary school setting. The difference is that the classes are taught in Spanish.

Parents who wish to enroll their 2016-2017 kindergarten-age child in the Spanish Immersion Program should complete kindergarten registration from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Feb. 9 and 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Probstfield Center for Education, 2410 14th St. S., Moorhead. Parents who are interested in enrolling their first-grade child in the Spanish Immersion Program should contact Ryan LaDage, Hopkins principal.
