Education That Works breakfast connects metro districts and higher education

April 26, 2016

Earlier this month, Education That Works hosted a higher education outreach breakfast at Probstfield Center for Education in Moorhead to connect higher education to the work of the metro K-12 school districts around 21st century learning.

The three metro schools districts teamed with United Way and the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation to launch Education That Works in 2014. The partnering organizations have been meeting to examine the 21st century skills and work to enhance K-12 curriculum with project-based learning that includes a stronger focus on measuring and teaching the four C’s of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.

The goals of the Education That Works collaboration include providing enhanced professional development for current educators, preparing tomorrow’s educators differently, and communicating 21st century skill developments with stakeholders and the business community.

Following a brief presentation by leaders from the three school districts, United Way and GFMEDC, several small groups discussed strengths and challenges they see with college readiness and teacher preparation. Responses were shared with the larger group and will be used to identify opportunities for future collaboration around the topics of fostering 21st century skills, college readiness and teacher preparation.
