Ninth candidate files for Moorhead School Board

Ruel C. Johnson, Moorhead, was the ninth candidate to file Aug. 15 for a four-year seat on the Moorhead School Board.

Johnson joins eight other school district residents in filing for the four-year seats on the board. They are, in order of filing:

  • Incumbent Scott Steffes, Moorhead. Steffes, who is currently serving as vice chair, was first elected to the board in November 2012 for a term that began January 2013.
  • Cassidy Bjorklund, Moorhead.
  • Incumbent Matt Valan, Moorhead. Valan, who is currently serving as clerk, was first elected to the board in November 2012 for a term that began January 2013.
  • Bert Chamberlain, Moorhead.
  • Scott Kostohryz, Moorhead.
  • Keith Vogt, Moorhead.
  • Cherie L. Clark, Moorhead.
  • Tina Walker, Moorhead.
Filing opened Aug. 2 and will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16.
 
The Moorhead School Board is made up of seven residents of Independent School District 152 who are elected at large to four-year terms. Four board members’ terms expire at the end of 2016.
 
For school district office, a person may be a candidate who:
• is at least 21 years old at the time the term of office begins,
• is a resident of the district for at least 30 days prior to the election,
• is an eligible voter, and
• is not registered as a convicted sex offender.
 
The School Board election will be held Nov. 8 in conjunction with the general election.
