School Board election set for Nov. 8 in conjunction with general election

August 22, 2016

Eleven school district residents have filed for four seats open on the Moorhead School Board. At its Aug. 22 meeting, the School Board set the election for Nov. 8. The School Board election will be held in conjunction with the state general election.

The 11 candidates for School Board, in order of filing, are incumbent Scott Steffes, Cassidy Bjorklund, incumbent Matt Valan, Bert Chamberlain, Scott Kostohryz, Keith Vogt, Cherie L. Clark, Tina Walker, Ruel C. Johnson, Melissa Burgard and David Marquardt.

The Moorhead School Board is made up of seven residents of Independent School District 152 who are elected at large to four-year terms. Four board members’ terms expire at the end of 2016.

The board also voted to move forward with placing the operating levy renewal on the Nov. 8 ballot. The ballot question asks voters to renew the district’s current operating levy funding in the amount of $233.66 per pupil. This is an extension of a current property tax referendum and not an increase to the district’s funding, said Brandon Lunak, assistant superintendent of finance and operations.
