District aims to inspire students to dream and achieve

October 17, 2013

Our new year in Moorhead Area Public Schools began with excitement. More students filled the schools, all-day kindergarten started, Spud pride filled the stadium and everyone was ready to work together to make this the best school year for every student.

Our district continues to look at new ways to connect with our families and community. In late August, our first attempt at different ways of welcoming students and families to the new school year was successful in some schools. The elementary small group meetings showed some ways that we can spend time before school starts to connect with our families. The middle school conferences were successful, but we need to make sure we can connect with all families. Moorhead High School used the time to send messages from each teacher to families. We hope some of these ideas will continue to provide opportunities for families and the schools to partner together for every student.

Our mission statement reflects our purpose to develop the maximum potential of every learner to thrive in a changing world. As we look at ways to inspire our students and make connections with the “real world,” we hope to offer more mentorship and service learning opportunities. We want our students to have dreams and plans for their future and to be inspired to be a part of the global community. We also want each of our students to achieve and be successful as they leave the school district. We are focused not only on academics but also on skills that will help students be successful such as communication, teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking.

We are proud of our school district. We have ups and downs as any organization has that is changing and growing. We have times when there are issues we must address to provide the best education for every student. We are fortunate to have community support and understanding as we grow and change to address students’ needs in a changing world. We are educating the students who will be our community’s future.

We are proud of our students, staff and community as they come together to provide a quality education system. We are excited to have everyone a part of our district. It is going to be a great year!

Sincerely,
Dr. Lynne A. Kovash
