Moorhead High speech team wins 20th consecutive section title

The Moorhead High speech team was named the Section 8AA champions on April 7 for the 20th consecutive year. A record 27 speakers advance to the 2014 state speech tournament April 11 at Blaine High School.

The following speakers will be representing the Spuds in their respective categories:
Creative Expression - Heidi Johnson
Discussion - Joe Cella
Drama - Colby Schwartzwalter, Camryn Hodny
Dramatic Duo - Jordan Hartjen/Matthew Wisenden, Karina Twedt/Drew Swenson, Devon Solwold/Carter Martinson
Extemporaneous Reading - Sarah Nelson, Amie Schulz
Extemporaneous Speaking - Shaker Ali, Quinn Kupec, Elliott Beach
Great Speeches - Anna Volk
Humorous - Rachel Rosson, Auna Lee
Informative - Emily Haagenson, Sydney Arends
Oratory - Jacob Klevgaard
Poetry - Mia Miller, Emmanuel Twedt
Prose - Alexis Gustafson, Delana Haglund

The tournament features the top three qualifiers from each of the eight Class AA sections in 13 different speech categories.

Moorhead qualified 27 individuals while Lakeville North and Roseville Area each qualified 20 competitors.

Moorhead has eight speakers who are returning 2013 Class AA medalists: Matthew Wisenden, Jordan Hartjen, Joe Cella, Karina Twedt, Shaker Ali, Auna Lee, Emily Haagenson and Shontel Smith.
