Moorhead High boys hockey team places second in state tournament

Moorhead High forward Jacob Holtgrewe faces off against a Grand Rapids player in the boys hockey Class 2AA state championship game on March 11 in St. Paul. Holtgrewe scored a goal in the third period that brought the Spuds to within two points, but the Thunderhawks kept their lead to win the game, ending Moorhead High’s 19-game winning streak.
To reach the championship game, the Spuds beat Hill-Murray 4-2 in the first round of the state tournament, and they won the semifinal game against Lakeville South 3-2.
Seven members of the Moorhead High team will graduate and 13 will return next season, including goalie Lance Leonard. The Spuds finished the season at 24-4-3.
