Moorhead High battles last year's state champ in football opener

September 8, 2017

Moorhead High School running back Otis Weah (26) runs a sweep left behind the blocks of junior offensive linemen Ali Younis (73) and Evan Gray (54) during the Aug. 31 football game.

The Spuds dropped their first game of the season 31-44 in a hard fought contest against last year’s state champion Elk River. Action during the game went back and forth as 11 touchdowns were scored between the Spuds and Elks. Weah scored two touchdowns and teammates Riley Schock, Terrance Weah and Ethan Hoff each scored once for the Spuds.

The Spuds play their home opener against Sauk Rapids at 7 p.m. Friday, September 8 at Jim Gotta Stadium.
