Moorhead High hockey teams win at home

February 1, 2018

Moorhead High’s Claire Howell gets her first girls hockey varsity career goal during a double action hockey day at the Sports Center last weekend. The Moorhead team played Bemidji in an afternoon game Jan. 27. Makayla Keller scored two goals and Kylie Harrom added another goal to give the Spuds a 4-1 victory over the Lumberjacks. The Spuds also defeated Roseau on Jan. 23 and Detroit Lakes on Jan. 25 in home games.

The Moorhead High boys hockey team extended its winning streak to five games after the evening game Jan. 27. Rogers scored its only goal early in the first period, but it was all Moorhead after that, as the Spuds made 54 shots on goal to win 4-1. Goalie Lance Leonard blocked 10 shots on goal. Kyler Kleven scored the first goal for Moorhead in the first period. Carter Randklev added one in the second, and Cole O’Connell scored a double set in the third. The Spuds also won their Jan. 23 game against Shanley.

Both hockey teams are on the road this weekend.
