March 12, 2018
Moorhead High’s Riley Schock was the only Spud wrestler to qualify for this year’s Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament held March 2 and 3 in St. Paul.
Schock, wrestling at 182 pounds, began the tournament with a pin against Richard Kruse (Minneapolis Southwest) in the first round and a major decision over Gabe Anderson (St. Michael-Albertville) in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinal round, Schock lost a close one in a 2-3 decision against Calvin Sund (Prior Lake) moving him to wrestle Rowan Morgan (Mounds View) for a chance at third place. Schock pinned Morgan, but later lost by decision to TJ Pottinger (Hastings) to finish in fourth place. Schock’s record for the year was 26-2.
