Dallas Brass to perform concert with Moorhead band students April 21 in new Horizon auditorium

April 16, 2018

Moorhead High School and Horizon East band students will join the Dallas Brass for the inaugural concert in the Horizon Middle School Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 21.

Moorhead Area Public Schools will hold a celebration of schools with open houses at the new and renovated K-8 schools and a dedication earlier in the day.  Tours are from 9-10:30 a.m. at the K-8 schools. The dedication at 11 a.m. will include music and theatrical performances by students of all ages and messages from school district and community representatives.

After the celebration, Moorhead band students in grades 7-12 and the Dallas Brass, a brass ensemble, will take over the auditorium with rehearsals. Additionally, Dallas Brass will hold a free public master class and clinic from 2-3 p.m.

Doors open for the evening concert at 6 p.m. General admission tickets can be purchased for $5 through April 20 or until sold out. Tickets can be reserved by calling 218-284-7435 or by emailing dchristianson@moorheadschools.org.

At 7 p.m. the Dallas Brass will be performing “American Musical Journey,” a concert that highlights a mix of American folk songs, jazz and pop selections. Besides playing by themselves, the Dallas Brass will be joined onstage by the Moorhead High School Band and Horizon East Band.

About Dallas Brass
Since its founding in 1983 by Michael Levine, the Dallas Brass has become one of America’s foremost musical ensembles. The group has established a unique blend of traditional brass instruments with a full complement of drums and percussion, which creates a performing entity of extraordinary range and musical challenges.

According to Levine, “a Dallas Brass concert is intended for the entire family. Our ideal audience has a range in ages from 5 to 95. Our goal is to entertain and enrich by playing great music, while showing our audience how much we enjoy what we do.”

In addition to their solo engagements, the Dallas Brass appears with symphony orchestras nationwide. Symphonic credits include the Cincinnati Pops conducted by Erich Kunzel, New York Pops conducted by Skitch Henderson, and the Philly Pops conducted by Peter Nero. The Dallas Brass has performed at Carnegie Hall and the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and has toured overseas to Europe and the Far East. They have shared the stage with the late Bob Hope, have performed for Presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush, have appeared on the CBS “Early Show,” and their music has been used numerous times on the television show, “The Young & The Restless.”
