Moorhead Area Public Schools names new assistant superintendent

July 16, 2018

Moorhead Area Public Schools announces the hiring of a new administrator. Tamara Uselman has been named to the position of assistant superintendent of learning and accountability following School Board approval on July 16, 2018.

Uselman served as superintendent of Bismarck (N.D.) Public Schools from July 2011 to June 2018. She was responsible for the leadership of the district, including managing teaching and support staff, ensuring system accreditation with AdvancEd, and providing for continuous improvement in school district operations. Prior to that she was superintendent of Perham (Minn.) Public Schools, where she was responsible for continuous improvement in all school district operations. Uselman was honored as the Minnesota Association of School Administrators Region 4 Administrator of Excellence in 2011-12.

A graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead, Uselman worked for New York Mills (Minn.) Public Schools from 1985 to 2003. She was a secondary language arts and social studies teacher and then served as curriculum coordinator. In 1999, Uselman transitioned to the position of high school principal for New York Mills Public Schools, where she managed the daily operation of the approximately 350-student school, including development, implementation and evaluation of education programs. She was named the Minnesota Western Division Principal of the Year in 2002-03.

In addition, Uselman has experience as a trainer for Minnesota Department of Children, Families and Learning, now the Minnesota Department of Education, and as an adjunct instructor for Hamline University, Tri-College University, and University of Mary.

Uselman earned her bachelor’s degree in English education from Minnesota State University Moorhead, and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from University of St. Thomas. She will complete her doctorate in institutional analysis from North Dakota State University in December 2018.

Uselman will assume the assistant superintendent of learning and accountability position on July 17. She replaces Missy Eidsness, who has left Moorhead Area Public Schools for a position with Fargo Public Schools.
