Summer construction at Moorhead High improves safety for students
August 15, 2018
Safety and security enhancements completed at Moorhead High School this summer wrap up the first phase of the Facilities Master Plan for Moorhead Area Public Schools. The work was the final part of the bond referendum approved by voters in 2015.
Dan Kleist with Gehrtz Construction Services updated the Moorhead School Board Aug. 13.
To improve safety for students, construction at Moorhead High School this summer created a public entrance at Door 13 on the north side of the school. All visitors entering the school will be required to use the LobbyGuard visitor management system, which is in place at the other schools in the district.
Door 1 on the south side of the building will no longer be a public entrance during the school day. After road construction is completed, Door 1 can be used as a handicapped accessible entrance.
The activities office has been moved and will now be located next to the administration offices, Kleist said. The former activities office space has been renovated for classroom space. The main office conference room was relocated to accommodate the activities office.
“The project went very well this summer,” Kleist said, noting the construction was within both budget and timeline, with final tile work being completed this week.
