Former football captain flips coin for last Friday’s game

September 26, 2018

In 1941 Glenn Melvey was captain of the Moorhead High School football team. Last Friday, Melvey flipped the coin prior to Moorhead High’s football game against Bemidji. Prior to the game, Moorhead High football coach Kevin Feeney recognizes Melvey.

A 1942 Moorhead High graduate, Melvey will be inducted into the Moorhead High School Hall of Honor on Oct. 6. Other inductees are Brad Atchison, Chuck Gulsvig and Lynne Kovash. Tickets for the induction ceremony must be purchased by Oct. 2 by calling 218-284-2346.

During the football game against Bemidji, Moorhead High’s Trey Feeney passes the ball before a Bemidji player can tackle him. Feeney passed for 256 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception while completing 15 out of 23 attempts.

Tommy Horan was in the endzone twice for the Spuds catching two of Feeney’s passes for touchdowns and three others for 110 yards receiving. Riley Schock scored a rushing touchdown and scored two 2-point conversions on his way to rushing 102 yards in 25 carries. Drew Hagen scored Moorhead’s final touchdown on a three-yard pass from Feeney in the fourth quarter.

The Spuds, who fell to 0-4 on the season, will be in Willmar for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff against the Cardinals on Sept. 28.
