Cast of Moorhead High’s “Newsies” learns about Moorhead in 1899
November 5, 2018
Students involved in this fall’s production of “Newsies” at Moorhead High School learned about life in Moorhead in 1899 from Markus Krueger, Moorhead High graduate and programming director for the Clay County Historical Society. Krueger gave students highlights about the city, including information about early resident Randolph Probstfield and the history of unions in the area at the time.
The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “Newsies” is based on the newsboys strike of 1899 in New York City. Newsies, the teenage newspaper sellers, from across the city took a stand against the powerful newspaper publishers.
Disney’s “Newsies, the Broadway Musical” will be performed in the Moorhead High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24 with 2 p.m. matinees Nov. 11 and 18. Tickets can be reserved online at www.MoorheadSchools.org/tix or by calling the MHS Activities Office at 218-284-2255. Ticket prices are $11 for adults and $7 for students.
