Adult Basic Education and Concordia College students share stories
November 19, 2018
Students from Adult Basic Education and Concordia College exchanged their stories to build empathy as part of a Narrative 4 experience last month.
A partnership this fall paired the ABE class with the Concordia College class. Last month, the students spent two mornings together for a cross-cultural story exchange led by Gina Sandgren, Narrative 4 facilitator.
Narrative 4, a global organization working locally out of Concordia College, brings people together across differences through personal storytelling, Sandgren said. The stories are used to build empathy, remove stereotypes and break down barriers.
During the first morning, the partners shared their stories with each other. On the second morning, the students each shared their partner’s story in the first person. The exchange ended with a discussion about what it feels to take on another person’s story.
