Moorhead girls basketball team tops New Prague in holiday tournament

Moorhead High’s Kylie Dumas scores on a three-point shot during the first round of girls basketball action at the Moorhead Holiday Tournament held at Moorhead High during winter break. Dumas came off the bench to score 11 points. The Spuds defeated Red Lake 81-72.

Ayana Blythe led the Spuds with 17 points. Jalen Ennen scored 16 points for the Spuds. Rylie Polomny and Brook Carney each scored 12 points in the Spud victory.

The Spuds played New Prague for the championship on the second day of the two-day tournament. Blythe again led the Spuds in scoring with 14 points. Polomny scored 11 points and added eight rebounds and had four assists. Sam Zimmerman led the Spuds in rebounds with nine and scored eight points to help in the 52-47 Spud win.

The girls basketball team is 6-5 for the season after away games on Jan. 4 and 8. The Spuds have away games against Minnetonka on Jan. 11 and DeLaSalle on Jan. 12. They will play at home at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15 against the Fergus Falls Otters.
