Moorhead weightlifting hosts Spud Thud meet last month

Moorhead High’s Chrisanto D’Agostino successfully snatches 112 kilos (246.9 lbs.) during the Spud Thud weightlifting meet at Moorhead High School in early February. D’Agostino lifted the most weight of any competitor in the event with this snatch and with a 140 kilos (308.6 lbs.) lift in the Clean and Jerk category.
 
Moorhead High’s Fabi Perez lifted 68 kilos (149.9 lbs.) during the Clean and Jerk portion of the Spud Thud weightlifting meet. Perez won her weight class over fellow Spud Kiarra Summers (2nd) and Little Falls competitor Trista Theimer (3rd). Thirty-five girls from six schools lifted during the
event.
 
Forty-seven boys from seven schools competed at the varsity and junior varsity event.
 
Horizon Middle School’s Xavier Thomas, Moorhead’s youngest male lifter, qualified for the state tournament with his combined score of 84 kilos (185.2 lbs.) in the 49 kilos (108 lbs.) weight class.
 
The Minnesota High School State weightlifting championship is March 9 in Cannon Falls.
