Tips For Successful Distance Learning

Starting Your Day
The start of your student’s day will set them up for success. Ensure your student has breakfast and settles in for some quality distance learning. If you are in need of meals, the School District has set up 70 different pick-up spots for students to receive free breakfast and lunch, visit www.moorheadschools.org/covid-19 for details. Students in K-4 will have a welcome video each morning from their teacher. This video will not only help them lay out a plan for their day, but it will also create a sense of connection. Students in Grades 5 through 12 will utilize Powerschool for assignments, class sessions and google hangout meetings.
Flexibility
The distance learning system is set up for flexibility. Each home will have a different way of making their learning environment successful. Set aside time for students to finish assignments, but also allow for time to get in movement and fresh air. It is also helpful to designate a space for learning and establish rules while “in class” like no TV, games or cell phones. Pay attention to how your child is settling in and provide them support while they settle into a new normal.
Technology
A technology help desk has been set up for students to help navigate learning platforms, district-owned Chromebooks or other technology issues related to distance learning. For technology questions, students or parents can contact the help desk at (218) 284-3340 or techhelp@moorheadschools.org.
Stay Connected
Powerschool, the learning platform that Moorhead Area Public Schools has used for the last 9 years, will remain the main source for information. Students and parents can log in to get assignments, stay in touch with teachers and much more.
