Community Education Enrichment Classes
In the area, Moorhead Community Education is well-known for its large selection of adult enrichment classes. Courses in arts and crafts, cooking, computers and recreation are offered in the fall and spring through three annual catalogs distributed in late August and early January. Annually about 9,600 area residents enroll in more than 900 Community Education classes. Read the catalog sponsorship schedule, guidelines and price list.
Adults with disabilities in the CHOICES program may register for any of the enrichment classes in the catalog or participate in one of the recreational and enrichment programs and classes specifically designed for adults with disabilities.

Early Childhood Family Education
Early Childhood Family Education, a program of Moorhead Community Education, offers classes and activities for parents and their children, ages birth to kindergarten entry. At Probstfield Early Learning Center, in rooms designed to enhance early learning, parents and children can take classes and participate in special family events. Both parenting and child classes are taught by licensed professionals.
Sliding fees and scholarships for Moorhead School District residents may be available. If your budget is too tight to allow for an ECFE class, call Community Education at 218-284-3400 for sliding fee or scholarship information. Read more.
Adult Basic Education
Adult Basic Education, a program of Moorhead Community Education, offers day and evening classes for adults who haven't finished high school or need to learn English. Preparation classes for those who want to obtain their General Educational Diploma are offered.
Basic skills instruction in reading, writing, math, and life skills is available. Students who need to improve their English speaking, reading and writing skills can attend English as a Second Language classes.

AARP Safety Driving Program
Community Education offers AARP Safety Driving Program classes for participants age 50 and above at the Moorhead Senior Center.

Youth Service
Community Education's Youth Service program coordinates service-learning projects and summer camps for students. Service learning teaches the value of community service to students in the Moorhead Area Public Schools.

KIDsource
Moorhead Community Education compiles KIDsource, a newsletter of activities that is distributed monthly to every kindergarten through grade 5 student in the Moorhead Area Public Schools and Moorhead private schools. Additionally, copies are available each month at Horizon Middle School.
KIDsource was started years ago to reduce the number of separate handouts going home with children in the Moorhead schools. It is distributed at the beginning of each month. Organizations who want children and their parents to know about their activities buy space in KIDsource for the months they want to promote an activity. CHOICES for Adults with Disabilities

Classroom Driver Education
Moorhead Area Public School's Driver Education classroom program is run through Community Education. This program is open to high school students age 15 or older living in ISD 152. Register through the Community Education office, Probstfield Center for Education, 2410 14th St. S., 284-3400. Financial aid is not available through the district.
This 30-hour class prepares students for their instructional permit. Classes meet at Moorhead High School.
Steps for persons under 18 years of age to get a Minnesota driver's license:
- Complete 30 hours of classroom instruction. Community Education offers this class multiple times during the year. Please refer to the Community Education catalog for class dates and times. The other businesses in town that offer classroom instruction are A to Z Driving School and FM Driver Training.
- Register for behind-the-wheel training. Register with a private vendor and receive the blue card. The blue card is issued by the vendor providing the behind-the-wheel instruction and is required to take the state permit test.
- Take and pass the state permit test. Students registering for permit test must provide: one primary ID, one secondary ID and the blue card. Primary ID options: state issued ID, current passport or state certified birth certificate. Secondary ID options: Social Security card, student ID with picture and ID number or certified school transcript. Upon passing permit test, paying $9.50 and parent/guardian signature, students receive their permit. Moorhead Driver Exam Office, 1300 15th Ave N. Hours: Wednesday through Friday, 8 a.m.-3:15 p.m.
- Complete behind-the-wheel training. Student must have permit before they can start behind-the-wheel instruction.
- Complete the six-month practice period. Minnesota law now requires drivers to have a permit for six months before taking the road test.
- Pass road test. To take road test, student must be 16 years old and have had their permit for six months. Drive on provisional license until qualifications for full license are met.
