If you are concerned about a young child's development after reading through our recommended developmental milestones please call EIS at 284-3800.

When you call Early Intervention Services of Moorhead Area Public Schools we will ask:

  • What concerns you the most about your child today?
  • If you're a daycare or medical provider, does the parent know about the referral?
  • What's the child's birthdate?
  • What's the child's address and who lives in the home with the child?
  • Have there been any interventions up until now?

What's Next — the Referral Process

An EIS staff member will receive your information, and you should expect an interview phone call within days of your referral. At that time, you will be asked for further detailed information. As needed, a preliminary meeting (called a Child Study One) will be set up to meet with the parents, a teacher and other staff (team members) who may participate in the evaluation process of your child.

At the Child Study One your team will recommend whether your concerns should be addressed through a formal evaluation.

If evaluation does continue, your child will be evaluated using standardized evaluations, parent interviews and observations based on your child's unique needs. Following the assessment process it will be known if your child qualifies for Early Intervention Services through Moorhead Area Public Schools.

If your child qualifies for special education through Moorhead Area Public Schools, your child's team members (parents, teacher and other staff) will create a plan unique to your child to serve his or her needs. This is called an IFSP (Individual Family Service Plan), IEP (Individual Education Plan) or an IIIP (Individual Interagency Intervention Plan).

If you have any questions about your birth to kindergarten-aged child's development, please call the EIS office at 284-3800. We are here to help your child develop all of his or her skills.
