During the June 10 meeting, the Moorhead School Board approved the district’s annual operating plan, which includes the preliminary budget for the 2019-20 school year. District revenues will increase primarily because of an increase to the general education aid formula and an estimated increase in enrollment, and expenditures will increase because of construction costs for the operations center and increased staff. With a combined 527 years of service to the district, retiring employees — including two long-time administrators — have spent decades focused on serving learners of all ages in Moorhead Area Public Schools. The influence of her parents led Maisa Mabrouk to become a teacher. Mabrouk has worked as an early childhood special education teacher for Moorhead Area Public Schools since 2014, first with the district’s Jump Start Preschool and most recently at Dorothy Dodds Elementary School. She was named this year’s Dorothy Dodds Teacher of the Year.

The renovation and expansion to create a district operations center for Moorhead Area Public Schools began in earnest this month with demolition of a portion of the existing facility last week. Dodds Elementary School focuses on learning by using a results-oriented curriculum and instruction and by creating a culture of respect, acceptance and support for students in partnership with parents. Dodds Elementary is located in east Moorhead and has approximately 750 students in grades K-4.
Family involvement is a critical link to student achievement, to achieving a high quality education and to a safe, disciplined learning environment.
