Doug Hastad graduated from Moorhead High School in 1967. While at Moorhead High, Hastad played basketball and baseball, competing in the state tournaments for both sports his senior year. He graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education and English. Hastad earned a master’s degree in health and physical education from Washington State University in 1972 and his doctorate in secondary education from Arizona State University in 1980.Hastad was an elementary physical education teacher for Moorhead Area Public Schools from 1972-76. He also served as Moorhead High School’s girls tennis coach and boys basketball assistant coach. Hastad taught and coached at Concordia College from 1976-78 and was an assistant professor at Northern Illinois University from 1979-84. At Texas Christian University, Hastad was chair of the Department of Physical Education from 1984-89 and interim dean in the School of Education in 1987-88. Hastad worked at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse from 1989 to 2006, first as dean of the College of Health, Physical Education and Recreation and then as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. After serving as interim chancellor, Hastad was named chancellor in March 2001. He has been president of Carroll University in Waukesha, Wis., since July 2006. Hastad has written five editions of the college text "Measurement and Evaluation in Physical Education and Exercise Science" and several other books and manuals. He has published numerous articles, presented papers and delivered workshops throughout the country. In 2001, Hastad received the James L. Loveless Award for Leadership for the advancement of international education at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He was selected as a Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow in 1992. Hastad is a member of the Jenzabar President’s Advisory Council and Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. He serves on the board of directors for Waukesha State Bank and Waukesha Memorial Hospital. In 2005-06 Hastad was appointed by the Wisconsin governor to the Education Commission of the States. Doug is married to Nancy Hastad. They have two adult children, Jacob and Rebekah. Hastad lives in Waukesha, Wis.
