Mark Sean Ladwig

Inducted Saturday, September 27, 2014

Inductee

Mark Ladwig graduated from Moorhead High School in 1999. During high school, he was active in figure skating, track and band, and he participated in Science Olympiad, football, diving, pep band and theater. He earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1996. Ladwig is currently enrolled at State College of Florida in Bradenton, Fla.

Ladwig was a competitive pairs figure skater from 1992 to 2013. In June 2002, Ladwig partnered with Amanda Evora. They finished 12th in their debut at the U.S. Championships and fifth at their first International Skating Union Championship, the 2005 Four Continents. In 2010, Ladwig placed second at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and was named to the U.S. Olympic team. He placed 10th at the 2010 Olympics in pairs figure skating, the top U.S. pair at the Vancouver Olympic Games. This was followed by ninth place at the World Championships. In 2011, he earned a bronze Grand Prix medal at Rostelecom Cup, repeated at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships earning a second silver medal, and was selected to compete at the World Championships placing eleventh and the Four Continents (Asia, Africa, North and South America), where he finished sixth overall. Ladwig’s partnership with Evora ended with her retiring from competitive skating in 2012. He skated one season with Lindsay Davis and won fourth place at the 2013 U.S. Championships.

During his skating career, Ladwig made 13 appearances at U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 2000, 2001 and 2003-2013, and he earned six U.S. Figure Skating Championship medals. Since retiring from competing in 2013, Ladwig has been with Jackson Skates, a division of Tournament Sports, as their Eastern technical representative where he trains pro shop technicians to fit, service and size ice skates for competitors.

Ladwig has served on numerous committees for U.S. Figure Skating from 2006 to the present. For 2012-16 he was named the figure skating athlete representative to the United States Olympic Committee’s Athlete Advisory Committee. In 2014 he was appointed U.S. Figure Skating Gold Judge in singles and pairs skating. Ladwig also mentors younger skaters and returns regularly to Moorhead to support the local figure skating club and be a celebrity guest at the Roger Maris Golf tournament.

Mark married his wife, Janet Beverley, also a 1999 Moorhead High graduate, in 2006. They live in Parrish, Fla., with their sons Holden and Felix.
