Jeffrey J. Molldrem, M.D.

Inducted Saturday, September 29, 2007

Inductee

Jeffrey Molldrem graduated from Moorhead High School in 1982. During high school he was active in theater, wrestling and K-Club. Molldrem earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 1986 and his M.D. degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1990. During medical school, Molldrem received the Minnesota Medical Foundation Research Award in 1989 and the Thomas J. Livermore Award for Outstanding Research in Hematology in 1990.

In 1993 Molldrem completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles Center for Health Sciences. He then completed fellowship training in hematology and medical oncology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, in 1996. Molldrem completed his postdoctoral research fellowship in immunology at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health in 1997. From 1996-97 he served as attending physician in the Bone Marrow Transplant Section at the National Institutes of Health.

Molldrem joined the faculty at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in 1997. He currently serves as a professor of medicine and section chief for Transplant Immunology in the Department of Blood and Marrow Transplant. Molldrem’s main interest is in translational immunology. The primary work of his laboratory is to understand immunity against leukemia and to develop novel immune therapies for patients with leukemia. His research is centered on how human T cells recognize abnormal hematopoietic progenitor cells in leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), what are the antigens involved, and how to increase anti-leukemia immunity. Molldrem has received several awards from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, including an Endowment Award, a Meritorious Award and a Mentor Award.

Molldrem is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Society of Hematology and American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. He has published numerous articles related to his research, and he lectures world wide.

Jeff and his wife, M. Carmen Visus, M.D., have two children, Marco and Elisa. He lives in Houston, Texas.
