Horizon Middle School presents heart-warming “Fiddler on the Roof” with guest artist Jon Larson

Moorhead’s Horizon Middle School presents the heart-warming “Fiddler on the Roof” at 7 p.m. March 3, 4 and 5 and 2 p.m. March 6 at the Moorhead High School auditorium, 2300 4th Ave. S. The March 3 performance will be sign language interpreted.
 
The acclaimed musical is based on “Tevye and his Daughters” (or Tevye the Dairyman) and other tales by Sholem Aleichem. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his Jewish religious and cultural traditions as outside influences encroach upon the family’s lives. The musical features such iconic songs as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and the classic “Matchmaker, Matchmaker.”
 
The original Broadway production of is one of the longest running shows in history. It won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, score, book, direction and choreography. It spawned four Broadway revivals and a highly successful 1971 film adaptation.
 
Guest artist Jon Larson, orchestra teacher at Moorhead High School, plays the lead role of Teyve. As a vocalist, Larson has performed in “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” “The Sound of Music” and “South Pacific.”
 
Larson joins 66 students in grades 6-8 from Horizon Middle School for the production of “Fiddler on the Roof.” The show is directed by Kelly Dubois­Gerchak.
