Dr. Lynne A. Kovash was named the tenth superintendent of Moorhead Area Public Schools on July 14, 2008. Her appointment was made by the Moorhead School Board after the completion of a national search. Her official duties began July 15, 2008.

A Moorhead High School graduate, Kovash returned to the community in 1982. Kovash has a strong background in education, including experiences as a teacher, assistant principal, special education administrator and district administrator. Most recently Kovash served as assistant superintendent of teaching and learning for Moorhead Area Public Schools. Since July 1, 1999, she provided the leadership and coordination for the district's instructional program.

Kovash received a bachelor's degree in Language Arts and Secondary Education from Moorhead State University, now Minnesota State University Moorhead. She then completed her master's degree in Special Education with a license in Specific Learning Disabilities and Emotional Behavior Disorders. Kovash completed classes in Education Administration through Tri-College University to obtain licenses as a K-12 principal, special education director and superintendent. She completed her doctorate in Educational Leadership through the University of North Dakota in 2009.

From 1994-96, Kovash was a teacher on special assignment for Moorhead Area Public Schools. She assisted the principal in the overall administration and daily management of the school and facilitated child study meetings and faculty meetings.

In 1996-97, she became the assistant principal and transition coordinator at Voyager Elementary School in Moorhead. She provided leadership and support in planning and assisting with the closure of Voyager as students and staff made the transition to other schools in the district.

Following, the closure of Voyager, Kovash served as an assistant principal and coordinator of the district's gifted and talented program before becoming supervisor of planning and assessment for the district. As supervisor of planning and assessment for Moorhead Area Public Schools, Kovash coordinated the district's work in implementing the Minnesota Graduation Standards and directed the information management of the Basic Standards tests.

Kovash was recently elected Minnesota Association of School Administrator President-Elect for 2013-14. Besides being involved with Moorhead Rotary, Kovash is a member of the Minnesota Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation, United Way of Cass Clay and Chamber of Commerce Fargo Moorhead. She also served on the Minnesota Department of Education Local Assessment and Accountability Advisory Committee and Minnesota Department of Education Assessment and Accountability Working Group and on advisory committees for Tri-College University and Minnesota State University Moorhead. Kovash is a member of Phi Delta Kappa and National Staff Development Council.

Kovash enjoys reading, knitting, golfing and watching University of Minnesota football. Lynne and her husband, Dennis, reside in Moorhead and have three adult children and six grandchildren.
