We Are Proud: Minnesota State Geographic Bee

We Are Proud of Horizon Middle School student Lila Stanley for qualifying to compete in the 2017 Minnesota State Geographic Bee. After winning the school-level geography bee, Stanley took the qualifying test. Students with the top 100 scores statewide qualified to compete at the 2017 Minnesota Geographic Bee held March 31, 2017 in St. Cloud. Mike Benson, Horizon social studies teacher, is the Geography Bee coordinator.

We Are Proud of Horizon Middle School student Lila Stanley for winning the Horizon Geography Bee held January 18, 2017. Second place went to Riley Swenson, and third place went to Emma Pranger. We Are Proud of the Horizon Middle School Knowledge Bowl Team for an outstanding year. The three teams of grades 6-8 students competed in three meets during the regular season. At least two of the three teams placed in the top three at each meet. The eighth-grade team also participated in a junior varsity meet where the team placed sixth in competition with high school teams. Team members are Blessing Braaten, Zaine Braaten, Kale Erickson, William Hallman, Kira Hegg, Makayla Hegg, Nathan Helgeson, Ava Holmes, JerriLane Hutt, Olivia Kelly, Lanie Leines, Emma McDonnell, Hunter Morehouse, Seema Mustafa, Emma Pranger, Gabriell Schuetz, Infinity Shores, Lila Stanley and Andrew Taylor. We Are Proud of the Horizon Middle School Science Olympiad team for successes at the regional and state competitions. Horizon students earned several first and second place finishes at the regional competition held at MSUM. At the state competition held at St. Olaf, Lila Stanley and Mackenzie Neuhalfen placed second in Rocks and Minerals. All team members who competed at state placed in the top 10 in at least one of their events. The team also won the Spirit Award at state. Team members are Nathan Helgeson, Ethan Crompton, Taylor Luikart, Lila Stanley, Mackenzie Neuhalfen, Scout Holding Eagle, Ethan Sculthorpe, Torii Guertin, Emma Pranger and Erika Stanek. We Are Proud of Moorhead High School freshmen Maren Twedt, Emma Craig, Rachel Craig and Lydia Flaspohler for receiving the DIstinguished Leaders Award at the 2017 Destination Imagination Minnesota Affiliate Tournament on April 22. The DIstinguished Leader Award, which is typically earned by high school seniors, recognizes exceptional accomplishment, dedication, innovation, leadership and performance in service of Minnesota’s Destination Imagination program. The award is Minnesota’s highest recognition of teamwork, leadership and creative problem-solving abilities. Read More
