Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration scheduled for Feb. 7-8, 2017

Kindergarten registration for Moorhead Area Public Schools for the 2017-18 school year will be Feb. 7 and 8, 2017, at Probstfield Center for Education, 2410 14th St. S. Registration will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 and 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Children must be five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2017. Parents should bring a birth certificate, passport, hospital record or baptismal record for proof of age.

Additional information about completing the registration process is included in the kindergarten registration brochure that was mailed January 13 to age-eligible students on the school district census. If your child received the Parenting Press newsletter in December than he or she is on the school census.

For more information about kindergarten registration or to request a packet contact the district office at 218-284-3370.

Will your child be age 5 by September 1, 2017?

If so, these steps are for you! At Moorhead Area Public Schools, we want kindergarten registration to be as easy as possible for you and your family. Please don't hesitate to call the district office at 218-284-3370 if you need additional information to complete your child's registration. We look forward to seeing your child this fall.

Step 1: Complete the Pre-Registration and Home Language Form mailed with the kindergarten packet and gather additional information needed for registration.

Bring these three items with you to registration:

  • a) pre-registration form to confirm your child's first and last name, gender, date of birth, address, and parent/guardian/emergency contact information;
  • b) birth certificate, passport, hospital record or baptismal record for proof of age;
  • c) your child's current immunization record.

Proof of age is required before your child can be assigned to a classroom.

Step 2: Attend kindergarten registration from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 7 or 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at Probstfield Center for Education, 2410 14th St. S. (enter Door 1 or 3).

All kindergarten registration, including registration for the Spanish Immersion Program, will be held at Probstfield Center for Education. Read more about Spanish Immersion.

At registration you will receive the information required to complete the online registration process explained in step 3.

If you are unable to attend kindergarten registration on Feb. 7 or 8, please return the completed Pre-Registration Form as soon as possible after Feb. 8 to Probstfield Center for Education.

Step 3: Complete kindergarten registration online through InfoSnap by logging in to your PowerSchool parent account.

Registration can be completed either at the school during registration or at home on your own computer. It is not recommended that InfoSnap be completed using a smartphone or a tablet smaller than 9 inches. Computer access and assistance will be available at Probstfield Center for Education for those who do not have access at home. Complete InfoSnap online registration forms by Feb. 28. The checklist in the kindergarten registration brochure includes additional information that will be helpful for you to have when completing registration.

What is InfoSnap?

Student registration forms for Moorhead Area Public Schools are completed online through InfoSnap, which provides a secure and efficient registration process. Parents will receive access to their PowerSchool parent account during registration to log in and choose the InfoSnap registration link to complete the process. This summer and in future years, you will complete an annual review and update of the information to ensure it is current.

If you already have a child enrolled in the district, you will use your existing PowerSchool account, and your kindergarten student will be linked to your family. Linking your family allows you to share information between children without having to enter it multiple times.

Step 4: Schedule your child's free, mandatory Early Childhood Screening if he or she has not already had one.

The district screens 3, 4 and 5 year olds so appointments fill quickly. Please call 218-284-3800 to schedule an appointment or to find out if your child needs to be screened. Screening dates are Friday, January 13, Friday, February 10, Friday, March 17, Friday, April 7, Tuesday-Thursday, June 13-15, Tuesday-Thursday, July 11-13 and Tuesday-Thursday, Aug. 8-10.

Step 5: Update your child's immunizations before the first day of school.

Schedule your child's checkup and immunization review with your health care provider. You will need updated immunization records for screening, registration and school entry. The Pupil Immunization Record, which you can print from within InfoSnap, or an immunization record from your child's health care provider, must be submitted on or before the first day of school. Immunizations are an important part of your child's health care. Minnesota Statute Section 121A.15 requires that all students enrolled in a Minnesota school be immunized against certain diseases, allowing for certain exemptions as described on the Pupil Immunization Record.

The kindergarten registration brochure includes the list of required immunizations for your kindergarten student. If your child is not fully protected at this time, please update all immunizations immediately.

Step 6: Register and attend the optional Keys to Kindergarten sessions.

Weekly sessions are held Thursday evenings from 6–7:30 p.m. January 19 to April 6 (no class March 2 and 9) at Probstfield. Keys to Kindergarten is a free program that offers school readiness activities to improve your child's academic, social and emotional skills. To register call 218-284-3400 or go online at Community Education.

Step 7: Attend the optional information night for kindergarten at Probstfield Elementary School.

Information night for 2017-18 kindergarten will be from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, April 20 at Probstfield Elementary.

Important Final Step

Step 8: Complete annual review and update of your student's information in InfoSnap.

Each summer you will be required to update your student's registration information by selecting InfoSnap registration in PowerSchool. Computer access and assistance will be available in August at the elementary schools for those who do not have access at home. Complete the online InfoSnap student information update by August 15, 2017.
