Kindergarten Registration

2019-20 Kindergarten Registration »
*Registration is available as of 8 a.m. Feb. 6, 2019.

Online kindergarten registration for Moorhead Area Public Schools for the 2019-20 school year began at 8 a.m. Feb. 6, 2019. Use the button at the top of the page.

Children must reach their fifth birthday on or before September 1 of the school year to be eligible to attend kindergarten. Kindergarten registration information is mailed to students who are included in the school district's community census prior to kindergarten registration in January each year.

Additional information about completing the registration process will be included in the kindergarten registration brochure mailed in mid January to age-eligible students on the school district census. If your child received the Parenting Press newsletter in December, then he or she is on the school census.

For more information about kindergarten registration or to request a packet contact the enrollment office at 218-284-3371 or email enroll@moorheadschools.org.

Will your child be age 5 by September 1, 2019?

If so, these steps are for you! At Moorhead Area Public Schools, we want kindergarten registration to be as easy as possible for you and your family. Please don’t hesitate to call the enrollment office at 218-284-3371 if you need additional information to complete your child’s registration. We look forward to seeing your child this fall.

Step 1: Complete the online kindergarten pre-enrollment for the 2019-20 school year using the button at the top of the page. Online pre-enrollment will open at 8 a.m. Feb. 6, 2019, for all students, including those interested in enrolling in the Spanish Immersion Program.

Step 2: Find and upload the following documents during the pre-enrollment process.

  • Birth certificate, hospital/physicians record, copy of passport/Visa or I-94 document indicating child’s full legal name and birthdate
  • Proof of residency
    • Home Owners: Mortgage statement, property tax statement, or builders agreement/purchase agreement followed by closing papers
    • Renters: Signed lease agreement with name(s) of parent/guardian on the document and showing lease period; utility bill dated within the last 30 days; or letter from government agency dated within the last 30 days
  • Immunization records
  • Home language survey form that will be mailed to families with the kindergarten registration brochure.

If you are unable to upload these documents they must be brought to the enrollment office at Probstfield Center for Education, 2410 14th St. S.

Step 3: Complete kindergarten registration online through PowerSchool by logging in to your PowerSchool parent account.

After you complete pre-enrollment, you will receive information from the enrollment office about completing PowerSchool Registration. Registration can be completed at home on your own computer. It is not recommended that online registration be completed using a smartphone or a tablet smaller than 9 inches. Computer access and assistance is available at Probstfield Center for Education for those who do not have access at home. Complete online PowerSchool Registration by Feb. 28. The checklist in the kindergarten registration brochure includes additional information that will be helpful for you to have when completing registration.

What is PowerSchool Registration?

Student registration forms for Moorhead Area Public Schools are completed online through PowerSchool, which provides a secure and efficient registration process. Parents will receive access to their PowerSchool parent account during registration to log in and choose the registration link to complete the process. This summer and in future years, you will complete an annual review and update of the information to ensure it is current.

If you already have a child enrolled in the district, you will use your existing PowerSchool account, and your kindergarten student will be linked to your family. Linking your family allows you to share information between children without having to enter it multiple times.

Step 4: Schedule your child's free, mandatory Early Childhood Screening if he or she has not already had one.

The district screens 3, 4 and 5 year olds so appointments fill quickly. Please call 218-284-3800 to schedule an appointment or to find out if your child needs to be screened. Screening dates are Friday, January 11, Friday, February 1, Friday, March 1, Friday, April 12, Tuesday-Thursday, June 11-13, and Tuesday-Thursday, Aug. 6-8.

Step 5: Update your child's immunizations before the first day of school.

Schedule your child's checkup and immunization review with your health care provider. You will need updated immunization records for screening, registration and school entry. The Pupil Immunization Record, which you can print from within PowerSchool, or an immunization record from your child's health care provider, must be submitted on or before the first day of school. Immunizations are an important part of your child's health care. Minnesota Statute Section 121A.15 requires that all students enrolled in a Minnesota school be immunized against certain diseases, allowing for certain exemptions as described on the Pupil Immunization Record.

The kindergarten registration brochure includes the list of required immunizations for your kindergarten student. If your child is not fully protected at this time, please update all immunizations immediately.

Step 6: Register and attend the optional Keys to Kindergarten sessions.

Weekly sessions are held Thursday evenings from 6–7:30 p.m. January 24 to April 11 (no class Feb. 14 and March 7) at Probstfield. Keys to Kindergarten is a free program that offers school readiness activities to improve your child's academic, social and emotional skills. To register call 218-284-3400 or go online at Community Education.

Step 7: Attend the kindergarten open house at your school.

Open houses are scheduled as follows:

  • Ellen Hopkins Elementary and Robert Asp Elementary: Tuesday, April 16, 6-7:30 p.m.
  • Dorothy Dodds Elementary and S.G. Reinertsen Elementary: Tuesday, April 23, 6-7:30 p.m.

Watch for information in August about opportunities for students and parents to visit their schools and meet their teachers before classes start.

Important Final Step

Step 8: Complete annual review and update of your student's information in PowerSchool.

Each summer you will be required to update your student's registration information by selecting annual registration and information update in PowerSchool. Computer access and assistance will be available in August at the elementary schools or enrollment office for those who do not have access at home. Complete the online registration and student information update by August 15, 2019.
