Robert Asp Elementary students trek more than 1,000 miles during walk-a-thon

October 10, 2018

Robert Asp Elementary students walked, ran, skipped, jogged or rolled around the track with their teachers, principals and staff members during the school’s Sept. 27 walk-a-thon. Despite the cool, sometimes rainy weather, the students walked 1,090 miles.

Robert Asp Elementary physical education teachers teamed with the school’s Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee on the walk-a-thon as a way to raise funds for PTAC to benefit Robert Asp students. PTAC contacted business for donations for the event.

The event allowed all students at Robert Asp to participate during the school day in a community-building event. During physical education and health classes, all students were encouraged to do eight laps or one mile around the track. During their remaining time outside, students could play catch, hula-hoop, challenge themselves further on the track, or play in the field. Visitors from the Moorhead Police Department, Spuddy, parents and grandparents joined the students in walking.

PTAC was able to raise funds to provide walk-a-thon T-shirts for all students, giving even those who are unable to purchase Spud gear a shirt to show school pride.
