Indigenous Peoples’ Day events planned for Oct. 14

Moorhead Indian Education, a program of Moorhead Area Public Schools, is among the community sponsors for this year’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day, set for Monday, Oct. 14, in Moorhead.
- Opening and blessing at Moorhead City Hall from 9-9:30 a.m.
- Reconciliation prayer service at Concordia College’s Knutson Center from 9:50-10:20 a.m.
- Community meal with chili, fry bread and fruit at the Moorhead High School cafeteria from 5-6:30 p.m. or until the food is gone
- Powwow in the Moorhead High School gymnasium with grand entry at 6:30 p.m.
The theme for this year’s event is “Creating a Generation of Healing.”
In July, the Moorhead City Council passed a resolution to recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day each year on the second Monday of October, the same day as what is federally recognized as Columbus Day.
