Indigenous Peoples’ Day events planned for Oct. 14

October 10, 2019

Moorhead Indian Education, a program of Moorhead Area Public Schools, is among the community sponsors for this year’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day, set for Monday, Oct. 14, in Moorhead.

The planned community events are all open to the public and include:
  • Opening and blessing at Moorhead City Hall from 9-9:30 a.m.
  • Reconciliation prayer service at Concordia College’s Knutson Center from 9:50-10:20 a.m.
  • Community meal with chili, fry bread and fruit at the Moorhead High School cafeteria from 5-6:30 p.m. or until the food is gone
  • Powwow in the Moorhead High School gymnasium with grand entry at 6:30 p.m.

The theme for this year’s event is “Creating a Generation of Healing.”

In July, the Moorhead City Council passed a resolution to recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day each year on the second Monday of October, the same day as what is federally recognized as Columbus Day.
