Moorhead High girls tennis advances doubles team to section tournament

October 10, 2019

Moorhead High’s Azylen Lunak and Kylie Dumas return the ball during a girls tennis doubles match against Detroit Lakes at Courts Plus in Fargo on Oct. 1.

In last week’s subsection tournament, the girls tennis team beat Detroit Lakes in the first round, but lost the second round. In the individual competition, Lunak and Dumas won the second round to advance.

On Oct. 5, the doubles teams advancing to sections played for section seeding. Lunak and Dumas beat Brainerd and then beat the #2 seeded Bemidji doubles team for the championship. It’s the first time in 15 years that a Moorhead High girls tennis doubles team won the subsection. With the win, Lunak and Dumas earned the #1 seed for the 8AA section tournament on Oct. 10-11 in Sartell.
