Two Moorhead swimmers heading to state

During the Class AA, Section 8 girls swim meet, Moorhead High’s Abbie Ishaug and Horizon East’s Alayna Janke both broke pool records on their way to qualifying for the state meet.

Overall the Moorhead High School girls swimming and diving team placed fifth in the Section 8AA meet.

Ishaug broke pool records at St. Cloud Tech and set new Moorhead school records in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:12.49 and in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.26. Her first-place finishes in both events secured her a spot in the Class AA state swim meet. Additionally, Ishaug was named Section 8AA Swimmer of the Year.

Janke broke the St. Cloud Tech pool record in the 100-butterfly with a time of 58.91. Her first-place finish also claimed her a spot in the state meet.

The Class AA girls swimming state meet will be Nov. 14-16 at the University of Minnesota’s Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center in Minneapolis.
